So, as I have been building up to it here on the TeaBlog…
…last night I had a tea-date with a beautiful bird from my past.
Ah… the past… just a whiff of a musty green tea brings it all back to me…
BUT NOW it’s the FUTURE! I mean the present. Power of Today and all that! Hrah!
Let me update you on my progress. And hers.

So we met at a local tea emporium of my choosing. An Asian Tea Shoppe I frequent not infrequently. Occasionally I chitchat in Japanese with one of the fine teamasters from Kyoto (yes, I speak a little Japanese, I’m not trying to impress you– I WAS trying to impress my date!) and tonight was no exception.
It’s really a beautiful place. Glorious large ink paintings on the walls, low lights, soft benches, and most importantly, a fine and artisanal collection of teas. I mean, I like sweet tea and barbeque too, but this bird’s cut from earrings-and-career cloth. I fly both ways.
I ordered some edamame (salty soybeans, kind of like bar food only more exotic for us locals) and a nice, smooth sencha. I used to think they didn’t go together, but the teamaster set me straight.
Then my date ordered.

I don’t ask much from life. Seriously. I don’t value money, or fast cars, or status. I like to be out in nature and have good friends.
And I like a good pot of tea.
You can take your own measure with a pot of tea. You can use it to balance your days, to expand time as you sip it, to get a little boost from the vegetal notes. Or you can huff it down and go rat-crazy like an off-the-rails GTDer.
Whatevs.
So long as it’s tea.

My date asked if they had any rose hips tea. A tisane. I liked to die, so embarrassed was I. For her.
I mean, nothing’s wrong with rose hips tea & herbals and all that… but we’re at a TEA SHOPPE! With some of the finest teas known to tastebuds… gyokuro-cha, matcha, maybe a sturdy Lapsang Souchong… anything but rose hips…
Anyway, we had a nice time catching up. She’s doing well… EXCEPT FOR THE INJURY TO HER FRONTAL LOBE THAT RUINED HER TEA-EVOLUTION. I’m doing well, too. Even though my deep-seated hopes for True Love got dashed against the rocks of a Rose Hips Tisane.
AUUUGH
&
sigh.
