Tea & Love in SE Asia

Delicious!

I’m a sucker for travel photography. So this set of pics from George Town in Malaysia, up on the island of Penang, has won me over.

It’s not a big set, but photographer Derrick Chang is a pro. And I’ve made it there, so there’s a tinge of delicious nostalgia and regret to the images. I recall…

…seeing a backpacking couple, still in school, walking down the street on their worldwide adventure…

…later that night, while I had some noodles at a street stall, I saw the same couple. She was storming down the street, and he was trying to keep up, proclaiming, “I’m sorry baby! I’m sorry honey!” for all of George Town to hear.

Good times!

(It wasn’t me, btw)

Most importantly, the tea.

To the right, an example: teh tarik. Also known as pulled tea, it’s a super-sweet, milky-frothy black tea that’s just perfect for the tropical days. Made with condensed milk, it ingeniously flips the colonizing English tea on its head. I love it!

And I love watching people make. That guy has skills.

Tea-Fueled Bliss

Meanwhile, if in George Town young love turns to carrion, in Taiwan it turns to Eternal Matrimony!

This is a Good Thing.

Stéphane at Tea Masters, perhaps the most essential teablogger of all, has created a perfect tea service for a just-married couple.

It’s amazing! Like, it’s making me want to get married. As in, RIGHT NOW. To the first person I bump into on the side-walk, so that we can IMMEDIATELY fly to Taiwan for some 2006 Jiangsu Bi Lo Chun and Stephane’s utterly masterful teamastery.

And then off to the hot spring for the lounging!
